K’Naan & Nas - Nothing To Lose
J. Cole - Lost Ones
While the expectations set on Cole due to his Roc Nation signing will probably never be met, this dude is a beast on the mic and a refreshing voice in this era of club singles. I haven’t heard a song like this from a new rapper..actually scratch that..any rapper in a long a$$ time. Immortal Technique’s ‘You Never Know’ is the one song that comes to mind that really struck a similar chord. While I hope nothing but commercial success for Cole, I’d be content with him creating songs like this and carving his own lane similar to Technique and Brother Ali.
(*taps mic) Is this thing on? 1-2-1-2. I guess its as good a time as any to make a review return. Shout to Rhude tho cause without this project here and his encouragement I’d probably still be in mixtape review hibernation. (cue’s up Rebel Without A Pause cause every good…
The Childish Games by D.VELOPED
Man Oh Man…I can’t get enough of Donald Glover and mashups, so the combination is a head burner. D.VELOPED absolutely kills this track throwing Gambino and Baby Jesus over a BSB instrumental hahaha.
“sunday afternoon” - 1st track from the rockets ep, originally released in 2006
it was a mild day it was a sunday we might have been lost
i was 19 and this couldn’t mean anything at all
we would just walk around the lake
in the evening and you might take my hand
we couldn’t picture an end
in the morning the sun will come again
it was september and we could never to pretend to understand
why we moved so fast we were at the edge of the last years of our youth
i just want to sleep through the afternoon…———

Soulbrotha - She Won’t (She Will Freestyle) prod. by Joe Milly
It’s been a minute since Soulbrotha dropped a new track on us, so I was pleasantly surprised seeing this in the inbox. Over Drake’s new single “She Will” Soulbrotha drops the usual potent lyrics. It only took me the first 4 lines to be reminded about Soulbrotha’s penmanship:
“They say rap is out of control;Word to Von Pea
Emcees are great mimmics; I’m just trying to do me
Not even feeling myself; Numb to the pain
The metaphors get abused they take it in vain…”
